Enhancing child nutrition and livelihoods of rural households in Malawi and Tanzania through post harvest value chain technology improvements in groundnuts
Duration: 01/Sep/2009 - 31/Aug/2013
Locations: Malawi / Tanzania - United Republic Of / Eastern and Southern Africa

This project intends to develop simple weaning formulations and preparation techniques based on groundnuts. Groundnuts are preferred because they are widely cultivated in the regions of Tanzania and Malawi targeted by this project, and they have high protein content (usually more than 20%) and oil content (usually more than 40%). In addition, groundnuts are a good source of calcium, phosphorus, iron, zinc and boron, as well as vitamin E and small amounts of vitamin B complex.
