The Agribusiness and Innovation Platform (AIP) of ICRISAT including its three Programs, NutriPlus Knowledge (NPK), Agri-Business Incubation (ABI), and Innovation and Partnership (INP) will be the implementing agency for establishment of the Food Testing Laboratories (FTLs) in five African countries – Republic of Congo, Rwanda, Zimbabwe, Gambia and Chad. SGS India will be partnering with ICRISAT in implementing the project. In doing so, AIP-ICRISAT, in addition to the technical expertise available with SGS, will leverage the technical expertise in the area of establishment and operations of the food testing laboratory and the food safety laboratory available in its NPK program. In addition, the NPK, ABI and INP Programs have well established linkages with important food research organizations and organizations / companies involved in the area of food safety. In the context of this project, for establishment of FTLs in Africa, AIP’s collaboration with universities, such as the Department of Food Science, University of Pretoria, South Africa , and partnerships with UniBRAIN, partner of the Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA) shall play a key role. ICRISAT has been actively involved in the forefront of implementing food safety in Africa through its network established by its two regional hubs and four country offices in sub-Saharan Africa.
