Sustainable management of crop-based production systems for raising agricultural productivity in rainfed Asia

Duration: 07/May/2012 - 30/Jun/2016

Locations: Asia / India / Nepal / Laos

Project contact: Dr Pooran M Gaur (P.GAUR@CGIAR.ORG)

Donor: Other international or regional organization,International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD)-Italy

CGIAR Research Program: Grain Legumes

The overall goal of the project is to improve the well-being of the rural poor engaged in rainfed agriculture in India, Laos, Nepal and Vietnam through intensification and diversification of crop-based production systems leading to their enhanced sustainable productivity and diversified income generation opportunities. The project strategy is to exploit crops/genotype (cropping systems) x management (external inputs and native soil conditions) x environment (climatic conditions) interaction at selected locations through selection of appropriate farmer-preferred legumes and cereals cultivars and production technologies to maximize and stabilize productivity of the rainfed cropping systems. Linkages with other development projects including IFAD investment projects will be established for up- and out-scaling the project innovations to address the issues related to low productivity and poverty
