ENTRERPRIZE (Ensuring Nutrition, Transforming and Empowering Rural Farmers and Promoting Resilience in Zimbabwe) is a consortium made of World Vision, Mercy Corps, Farmers association of Community Self – Help investment Group (FACHIG) and ICRISAT. This network of stakeholders aims to improve food and nutrition security of at least 25,500 farmer households in Mashonaland central province of Zimbabwe. The goal of ENTRERPRIZE is to improve livelihoods and resilience to shocks, benefiting women, men and children equally. The project seeks to improve the economics of agriculture through local value chain development, linking farmers to input and output markets and financial services, including credit. The project promotes the year-round availability and consumption of more diverse and nutritious foods. The overall strategy driving this project is centred on mobilising and supporting multi-stakeholders partnerships and community- based groups, growing the local capacity and working within existing systems to stimulate demand for and support equitable access to private and public products and services which contribute to lasting improvements in the productivity, profitability, resilience and nutrition security of smallholder farmers. Underpinning the entire strategy is extensive analysis and action on gender at farm households, farm organisation and farm and market system level. ICRISAT will contribute to the project in research activities promoting soil and water management fertility techniques targeted for climate smart technologies (e.g conservation agriculture (CA) and fertiliser micro dosing (MD), legume rotations /intercropping and organic soil fertility amendments). ICRISATs role in the project is centred on conducting training of trainers and setting up demonstration plots to show case some of the climate smart technologies and building the capacity of public extension systems. It is expected that ICRISAT will play a greater role in producing and distributing research products from commissioned studies, mid – term and end of term evaluations.
