Africa RISING program-Intensification of maize-legume based systems in the semi-arid areas of Tanzania (Kongwa and Kiteto districts) to increase farm productivity and improves farming natural resource base
Duration: 01/Jan/2014 - 30/Nov/2014
Locations: Eastern and Southern Africa,Tanzania

The aim of this project is to provide a scientific basis for sustainably intensifying agricultural production in semi-arid areas of central Tanzania. The project will implement six work packages that address three critical elements of sustainable intensification, i.e. genetic, ecological and socio-economic components. The scope of activities include: introduction and testing of integrated legume/cereals technologies; food safety primarily to reduce aflatoxin contamination; and integration of livestock into the cropping systems.
