This project will test whether conventional practices (e.g. fertilizer blends) can meet some or all of the dietary deficits of zinc and calcium using farm-scale trials in representative farming systems and landscape positions in three major regions of Ethiopia, namely Amhara, Tigray and Oromia. It will also assess what contribution existing fertilizer practices can make towards alleviating dietary zinc and calcium deficiencies, in relation to the potential for other strategies (crop breeding, dietary diversification/education).
