The primary aim of the project promoted by the grant is to identify and characterize areas suitable for water spreading wier-based spate irrigation, and design appropriate farming systems that would fit the local context of the respective communities. The outputs of this project will help to generate evidence and guide investment in spate irrigation (e.g. water spreading wiers), ground water use and other rainwater management strategies in the region.
