Promotion of Improved Chickpea Varieties in Rice-Based Cropping Systems of Smallholder Farmers in Odisha (Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar and Sundergarh Districts)

The overall goal of the project is to enhance food and nutritional security and income generation through the promotion of chickpea for smallholder farmers in the rice-based cropping systems of Odisha. During 2015-16, demonstrations were conducted on integrated crop production technologies involving farmer-preferred varieties in three project districts. In an effort to make farmers self-sufficient in quality seed for sowing purposes, farmers were encouraged to take up seed production in Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj. Quality seed from farmers was procured for the purpose of sowing in the next season.
