Growing out of poverty: intensification of sorghum and millet systems by unlocking the potential of local biodiversity and market opportunities

This project targets enhanced agricultural performance in order to improve the livelihoods of farmers in the Sahelian and Sudanian zones of Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger and Nigeria through the intensification of sorghum and millet systems using local biodiversity, creating new market opportunities and adapting biological knowledge. It addresses the first mission statement of the West and Central African Council for Agricultural Research and Development, which is the improvement of the efficiency and effectiveness of agricultural research in West and Central Africa by contributing to strengthening and coordinating the capacities of NARS through cooperation among its members, development partners, regional and international organizations, the private sector, NGOs and the users of the research results. The program addresses key objectives of the IFAD strategic framework and the regional strategy for West and Central Africa.
