Duration: 25/Jun/2011 - 24/Jul/2012
Project contact: SP Wani
Donor: Government of Karnataka-India
CGIAR Research Program: Dryland Systems
The overall goal of this initiative is to improve the livelihoods of small and marginal farm households by enabling farmers to shift from low-value subsistence crops to high-value fruit and vegetable crops. Apart from sustainable management practices the project aims to use input and output market value chains and identify market linkages for high-volume fruits and vegetable crops for farmers under SBY; and also implement a science-based strategy for sustainable production of high-value crops. To achieve these ends a multi-institution consortium comprising ICRISAT, AVRDC, NGOs, private sector industries, University of Horticulture, SAUs, and Department of Horticulture has been put into place in 25 selected districts of Karnataka.
