The vision of the Centre of Excellence for High-Throughput Allele Determination for Molecular Breeding (now termed the Centre of Excellence in Genomics, CEG) is the full utilization of modern molecular methods of genome analysis by Indian agricultural breeding programs. The CEG is achieving this vision by providing access to high-throughput molecular genotyping and phenotyping technologies to a wide range of Indian public and private research and breeding institutes. By providing access to such technology and infrastructure, the CEG is providing multiple opportunities for scientists and students to be trained in and to utilize molecular marker and genomics technology in their research programs. Ultimately, the CEG is thriving to integrate molecular genomics as a mainstream approach into the Indian breeding and research programs to meet the germplasm needs of researchers, breeders and farmers in the country and the region.
