The goal of this research is to deepen the understanding of complex linkages among socio-economic and environmental change, the functioning of agricultural systems and human well-being. The product will be a comprehensive modeling environment, integrating socio-economic, bio-physical and technological responses that can simulate global, regional, and local consequences of policy changes and technology-based investments. The model will provide a much improved platform upon which international organizations, agricultural research centers, development agencies, and national governments can base strategic planning and investment decisions. The main activities of the Global Futures Project at ICRISAT are: a) contribute to innovative approaches and tools in improving the evaluation of ex-ante returns to research and technology development; b) development of methods for modeling the adoption process; and c) calibrate the DSSAT crop model for popular cultivars of sorghum and groundnut cultivated in Asia and sub-Saharan Africa.
